Book burning has existed since the first book got published. It is in most of the cases a political or censorship motivated action. Some examples are the ones that took place in nazi-Germany and the Soviet Union. Both of these burnings was organized by the government and was a tool to censure the regime criticizing literature and a warning to the authors that wanted to publish similar books.
A modern example is the burning of Koran’s. These are political and religious motivated burnings and
have made a lot of Muslims angry and made riots all over the world. A pastor in Florida got a lot of attention when he was planning to burn 200 Koran’s on the 10th anniversary of 9/11, finally he canceled after riots had killed about 30 people. He had earlier burned the Koran after having a private trial in the churced where he judged the Koran guilty of crime against humanity.
